    SC Medicare Payment Assistance

South Carolina offers a Medicare Savings Program (MSP) for people with limited income that helps them pay some or all of their Medicare premiums. The program operates in three categories of eligibility:

    • Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB)
    • Specified Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary (SLMB)
    • Qualifying Individual (QI-1)

Each of these eligibility categories lay out their own income requirements, but all plans require that:

    • You’re a working disabled person under 65
    • You lost your premium-free Part A when you went back to work
    • You aren’t getting medical assistance
    • You meet the income and resource limits required by your state
